Although my primary interests do not necessarily extend to the purely cosmetic realm, I think that a firm foundation in cosmetic surgery is very helpful with reconstructive procedures.
As a word to the consumer, always be sure to check the credentials and training of your surgeon, especially for elective cosmetic procedures. There are many physicians (including dermatologists, general medical practitioners and even dentists) that advertise themselves as "cosmetic surgeons." Be assured that there is no specialty of cosmetic surgery that is recognized by the American Board of Medical Specialties.
